Catholic parents start petition against OECTA participation at gay pride parade

Teresa Pierre, along with more than 1,000 Ontarians, thinks the Ontario English Catholic Teacher's Associations' decision to have representation in the World Pride Parade should be overturned.

TORONTO - At least 1,000 Ontarians are calling on the province's Catholic school trustees to demand the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association abandon its decision to have representation at the World Pride Parade.

OECTA wrong to join Pride Parade

OECTA president James Ryan, pictured, said the union’s presence is a sign of support for those teachers, staff and students of the Catholic school system who identify as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender. Cardinal Thomas Collins said The union representing Ontario’s Catholic teachers is wrong to join in the World Pride Parade and its decision demonstrates an “inadequate and mistaken understanding of their faith.”

TORONTO - The union representing Ontario’s Catholic teachers is wrong to join in the World Pride Parade and its decision demonstrates an “inadequate and mistaken understanding of their faith,” said Cardinal Thomas Collins.
