New gender policy won't affect Catholic Scouting units, says committee

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting says the Boy Scouts of America's new policy regarding gender identity won't affect Scouting units sponsored by the Catholic Church.

IRVING, Texas – The Boy Scouts of America's new policy to accept members based on their gender identity will have no impact on Scouting units sponsored by the Catholic Church, said the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.

The Boy Scouts of America says self-declared gender identity now determines youth eligibility for its scouting programs.

DALLAS, Texas – Citing legal and community changes, the Boy Scouts of America have said self-declared gender identity now determines youth eligibility for its scouting programs. The move could add new difficulties for Catholic sponsors of scout troops trying to adapt to the organization’s relatively new policy on homosexuality.
