For high school seniors, the end of the school year is approaching. While this normally brings relief and excitement for the summer, high school graduates face the uncertainty of what is to come. Starting university or college is, after all, a leap into the unknown.

Ukrainian Catholic bishops thank world for prayers during transition

Pro-Russia protesters scuffle with the police at the regional government building in Donetsk, Ukraine, April 6. A Ukrainian Catholic bishop has warned his church could lose its legal status under Russian rule, and pledged to use “all possible means in th e international arena” to defend it.

KIEV, Ukraine - Ukrainian Catholic bishops thanked people around the world for their prayers over the last six months and asked for continued prayers for peace in their country.

Pope Benedict's resignation will set in motion period of transition

The cover of a cardinal's prayer book from the last papal transition is imprinted with the Vatican insignia representing a vacant Holy See. The emblem is used between the death of a pope and the election of a new one -- a period known as the "interregnum ." The Holy See will be considered vacant with the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI Feb. 28.

VATICAN CITY - While the surprise resignation of Pope Benedict XVI is a first for the church in centuries, it also leads to a complicated period of transition that ends in the election of a new pope.
