Starting the New Year off on the right foot

By  Youth Speak News 2011/12 team
  • January 4, 2012

This year, we asked the Youth Speak News team to resolve to do good — either for themselves or for those around them.

Here are their New Year’s resolutions. Don't forget you can view profiles of all the 2011/12 team from the drop-down menu at youthspeaknews.org.

Adanna Chigbo

Hometown: Mississauga, Ont.

This year, I resolve to waste less time by being less than the person I can be and creating more opportunities to make others smile.

Andrea Maria Dias

Hometown: Ahmadi, Kuwait

During Advent, I spent a lot of time with the elderly and sick. This year, I’m going to offer the daily Masses I attend for those who cannot be there themselves.

Melanie Dziengo

Hometown: Toronto

I hope to volunteer with a charity this year which either involves the less fortunate or abandoned animals.

Eunice Hii

Hometown: Vancouver, B.C.

I want to write even when I do not feel like it. The same can be said of prayer in my life.

Kevin Hurren

Hometown: Mississauga, Ont.

My new year’s resolution is to call my parents more often. Just because I’m out of their home doesn’t mean I’m out of their thoughts.

Meghan Keating

Hometown: St. John’s, Nfld.

My resolution is to make it to choir rehearsal on time every Sunday morning so that I can help bring to life the beatiful chants and hymns.

Bronwyn Lawrie

Hometown: Prince Rupert, B.C.

To make the time to cook healthy home-cooked meals, preferably with ingredients sourced from local farms.

Thien-An Nguyen

Hometown: Toronto

As a student living away from home, my new year’s resolution is to honour my parents by calling home regularly and to spend more time with them when I am home.

Jed de los Reyes

Hometown: Toronto

I resolve to take some time to de-stress, exercise and generally care for my own health and well-being this year.

Marjorie Roque

Hometown: Coquitlam, B.C.

I will focus on my blessings rather than my wants; I can keep in sight the importance of school, social justice and even spend more time with my family this way.

Elizabeth Ward

Hometown: Windsor, Ont.

My resolution for the new year is to help my family out more and be there for them. I was so busy with school last year that I wasn’t able to see or help my family too much.
