Seven men handed their lives over to service in the Church, service to the Eucharist, service to the Gospel at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Toronto on Saturday, May 13.

Fr. Savio Bruto da Costa, Fr. Sean Jacob, Fr. Mirko Ljuba, Fr. Carlos Marquez, Fr. Cole Powers, Fr. John Wang and Fr. Matthew Wang were ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Francis Leo before an overflow crowd of family and well-wishers.

In his homily, Leo stressed the life of service — service to the Eucharist and service to the people of God — that the seven new priests were taking on.

“You will experience the Cross,” Leo told the new priests. “But do not be afraid. Jesus is with you.”

Seated in his cathedra before the altar, the archbishop drew attention to the sacrifice of the Mass.

“The Eucharist is the centre of our life and your ministry,” he said. “Jesus is infinitely present in the Eucharist… Feed the people with the words of Jesus.”
