Work together

As a Past President of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development & Peace – Caritas Canada (D&P), I am very pleased to see that the bishops want to return to the National Council (NC), the governing board of the organization.  I have always believed their presence at NC meetings is imperative.

Support for priest

In a recent edition The Catholic Register reported that Fr. Nino Cavoto, pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Toronto, has been removed from ministry following the Archdiocese of Toronto receiving an allegation that he had abused a minor while serving at a parish in the New York archdiocese between 1979 and 1983.

Toronto police have released an image of a man sought for decapitating a statue of the Virgin Mary outside a church in the city’s west end.

The Archdiocese of Toronto has removed from ministry a priest accused of abuse against a minor in the Archdiocese of New York dating back to the late 1970s or early 1980s.

The number of medically-assisted deaths in Canada rose by more than 25 per cent in 2019 and made up two per cent of all Canadian deaths last year, Health Canada’s first annual report on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada found.

Different rules

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has apologized for so many wrongdoings of late. He’s “sorry” about blackface; he’s “sorry” about SNC-Lavalin; he’s “sorry” about the conflict of interest with WE Charity — involving payments to three of his family members, exceeding a total of $300,000, in exchange for public relations appearances for the charity. This preceded Ottawa’s granting WE a nearly one-billion-dollar contract they then cancelled. Mr. Trudeau operates by different rules.

Fr. Frank Freitas, a priest in Waterloo, Ont., has been suspended from priestly ministry  after a “substantiated allegation of professional misconduct.”
