Stand for our values

  • June 29, 2023

The Catholic Register’s recent editorial “What reason for Pride season?” sounds like a secular commentary on gay culture and trans individuals.

Thankfully, we have in the same issue the  reflection by Pope Francis with the headline: “Pope asks Catholics to Welcome Everyone.” He asks, “If God is love, do our communities bear witness to this?”

The Register’s editorial does not express love. Rather, it reminds one of what the Pharisees might have expressed. The Gospels are also clear in asking us to make a special effort to support the most vulnerable in our communities. Individuals in the gay community are often under attack in the media and in institutions.

The Register needs to articulate a prophetic voice that stands for our Catholic values and beliefs.
