Anna Farrow’s Oct. 13 article “Christians sign on to back Canada’s Jews” was biased in conflating anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. I have attended many pro-Palestinan rallies and have never witnessed anti-Semitism there. I’ve marched with Jewish people, cried for justice with them and shared Shabbat at the encampment at University of Toronto.
Israel is a country. Zionism is a political ideology. It is not anti-Semitic to critique the actions of a country or the tenets of an ideology. Equating what we see on our campuses and our streets and so forth with “Jew-hatred” is nasty and wrong.
As Msgr. Robert Nusca says in The Catholic Register this week: “The victors are those who have given brave, courageous witness against the values of the Empire.” I continue to bear witness against the Empire.
