As King Charles is diagnosed with cancer, Cardinal Nichols offers 'steadfast prayers'

King Charles III visits Aberdeen Town House to meet families who have settled in Aberdeen from Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine, in Aberdeen, Scotland, Oct. 17, 2022. Buckingham Palace announced Feb. 5, 2024, that the king has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and has begun a schedule of regular treatments. While he has postponed public duties, he "remains wholly positive about his treatment," Buckingham Palace said. King Charles was hospitalized a week earlier for a "corrective procedure" for an enlarged prostate, but the palace said his cancer diagnosis is unrelated to that procedure.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols has offered "steadfast prayers" on behalf of Catholics after it was announced that Britain's King Charles III is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Catholic leaders welcome 'focus on service' at king's coronation

King Charles III sits on the throne after being crowned with St. Edward's Crown by Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury during his coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London.

Catholic leaders in Britain welcomed the ecumenical and interfaith elements in the May 6 coronation of King Charles III and his consort, Queen Camilla, as well as a pledge by the new monarch "not to be served but to serve."

Cardinal prays at queen's funeral, signalling Charles' openness to dialogue
