Vatican bank reports $53 million profit in 2016

The Institute for the Works of Religion, often referred to as the Vatican bank, made a profit of 36 million euros (about $54 million) in 2016, according to its annual report.

Church must remain vigilant in addressing abuse, USCCB president says

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Ky., president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, says that the healing of victims and survivors of abuse remains the bishops’ first priority.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Catholic Church spent a total of $150.7 million on child protection efforts and to address allegations of clergy sexual abuse of minors in dioceses and religious orders between July 2013 and June 2014.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan cuts ties with anti-abortion crusader Frank Pavone

Father Frank Pavone, one of the country's most visible and vocal opponents of abortion, has been suspended from active ministry outside the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas, over financial questions about the priest's operation of Priests for Life. NEW YORK - In the latest clash between the Catholic hierarchy and one of the church’s leading anti-abortion crusaders, New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan accused the Fr. Frank Pavone of continuing to stonewall on financial reforms, and Dolan said he is cutting ties with his group, Priests for Life.
