The fateful March of 2020 brought the curtain down on in-person performances and rehearsals for the children and youth voices animating the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) choirs.

When Vincent Cheng closed his eyes as he sang, the walls of the Church of All Nations faded away and he imagined Jesus on His knees praying fervently before the Father hours before His Passion.

Mary Sharp joined the Young Catholic Musicians choir because she found an outlet for her joy of music and the joy of the Gospel. Last week, for the very first time, she and her fellow musicians shared their joy with audiences in Canada. 

Choir practices at St. James parish in Toronto have been especially exciting as the youth choir prepares for its biggest concert yet.

My main resolution this year has been to attend my church’s noon choir rehearsal every Sunday and to be punctual. During 2011, my choir attendance was sporadic at best, despite the fact that I feel closer to the Lord when I praise Him in song. I decided to make my New Year’s resolution faith-based.

At the time of writing, three Sundays have passed, and I have yet to be on time for choir rehearsal, for various reasons.

However, I still take my resolution seriously and refuse to give up on the promise I have made to myself.
