WASHINGTON – Catholic Charities agencies joined emergency response efforts in coastal communities in four Southeastern states as residents and parish staffers began returning to assess the damage Hurricane Matthew left behind.
WASHINGTON – Emergency aid slowly began to reach some of the thousands of Haitians displaced by Hurricane Matthew in the country's picturesque southwest as reports of casualties slowly trickled in from communities cut off by the storm.
MIAMI – Like the rest of South Florida, the Archdiocese of Miami was carefully watching the path of Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 storm that began pounding Haiti and Cuba Oct. 4 and hit Florida's Atlantic coastal area late Oct. 6.
WASHINGTON – Haitian first responders and nongovernmental aid workers were assessing the damage from Hurricane Matthew even as they scrambled to deliver food, water and shelter materials to communities isolated by washed-out bridges and blocked roads.
WASHINGTON – Canada’s Catholic aid agency has already sent $50,000 to help the people of Haiti cope with the worst storm to hit the Caribbean nation in a decade. But the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace is still counting on Catholics to give.
