At Loreto school, South Sudanese girls from diverse tribes live in peace

Irish Loreto Sister Rosemary Gallagher, who teaches at Loreto Primary School in Rumbek, South Sudan, works with students in late April. The Loreto Sisters began a secondary school for girls in 2008, with students from throughout the country, but soon after added a primary in response to local community demands.

RUMBEK, South Sudan – In a country wracked by civil war and ethnic strife, Irish nuns have created a unique space where young women can dream of a better future and begin to acquire the skills that will help them construct it.
