Philosopher who backs legal abortion joins Vatican pro-life academy

Nigel Biggar, the Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology at the University of Oxford, who has said that he supports legal abortion up to 18 weeks, has been appointed by Pope Francis to the Pontifical Academy for Life.

VATICAN CITY – Philosopher Nigel Biggar, who backs legal abortion, is among the 45 new appointments to the Pontifical Academy for Life, according to a statement on the Vatican website.

Two Canadians appointed to Pontifical Academy for Life

Pope Francis has appointed two Canadians, Dr. William F. Sullivan, a Toronto family physician and ethicist, and Bistop Noël Simard of Valleyfield, Que., to the Pontifical Academy of Life on June 13.
