Rio archdiocese asks for help to restore iconic Christ the Redeemer statue

RIO DE JANEIRO – The Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro has launched an international appeal for donations to help restore Christ the Redeemer, Brazil’s most famous statue, considered one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Catholic priest to coordinate interreligious centre at Olympic Village

SAO PAULO – About two weeks before the opening ceremony for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Father Leandro Lenin Tavares was putting the final touches on what he hopes will be a very successful spiritual mission: coordinating the interreligious centre for athletes at the Olympic Village.
