Couple takes the long road to wedding

Karla and Jason De Los Reyes hiked the Camino de Santiago from Sarria to Santiago, Spain, in the days leading up to their Dec. 12, 2019, wedding.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- It’s sometimes said that life is a journey. For Karla and Jason De Los Reyes, preparing for their new life together involved a literal journey — travelling 120 kilometres on foot along the Camino de Santiago in the days leading up to their wedding in Spain.

Speaking Out: Still learning from my Camino

Santiago de Compostela is a famous Catholic pilgrimage site because what are believed to be the remains of St. James were discovered there.

When people find out that I’ve walked the Camino Portugués across Europe, I am often asked: What made you want to do it? When I take a moment to reflect, I cannot think of anything specific.
