Remember that old expression, “you are like the dog that caught the car?” It’s what you say to someone who has focused so much on achieving a certain goal that they never thought about what they would do if successful. 

In a 5-4 decision June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned its nearly 50-year-old decision in Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion in the United States.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signed into law one of the nation's most restrictive abortion bills May 25, saying he has kept his promise to voters to "sign every piece of pro-life legislation that came across my desk."

News of a leaked document pointing to the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court constitutes a moral victory of sorts for the pro-life movement in Canada, but few pro-life representatives think there will be any immediate or similar impact here.

Canadian legal experts say any momentum built by the pro-life community from the expected overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision in the United States will not translate into legislative victories on behalf of the unborn north of the border.

Although many pro-life groups immediately reacted positively to the news that the majority of Supreme Court justices seem set to overturn the court's Roe v. Wade decision, some tempered their reaction with a continued call for more advocacy while others kept a wait-and-see approach until the court issues its opinion in the weeks ahead.

MEXICO CITY -- Argentina has legalized abortion during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy, despite strong Catholic opposition and polls showing deep divisions on the issue.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- A Johnson County district court judge has temporarily blocked the enforcement of the state's new law requiring women to wait 24 hours before having an abortion, the Iowa Catholic Conference reported July 1.
