U.K. bishops make appeal for child refugees

Young demonstrators gather outside Parliament in London Oct. 24 to call for more child refugees to be allowed asylum and safe passage to the United Kingdom.

MANCHESTER, England – U.K. Catholic leaders urged the British government to accept more child refugees from northern France after reports that hundreds of young people are being forced to sleep outdoors in low temperatures.

World organizations make education for child refugees a priority

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attend the opening of the World Humanitarian Summit May 23 in Istanbul. The two-day gathering was conceived four years ago by Ban. In preparation, 23,000 people were consulted in more than 150 countries, according to U.N. officials.

Inspired by the Syrian crisis, a global fund for education for refugee children, announced at the World Humanitarian Summit, was welcomed by aid groups, including Catholic organizations.
