Bishops in south Philippines support 'temporary' martial law in wake of violence

MANILA, Philippines – Catholic bishops in the southern Philippines supported the declaration of martial law in Mindanao following an attempt by a band of gunmen claiming to be Islamic militants to seize a city in the region.

Nigeria marks one year since Boko Haram kidnapped schoolgirls

At least 147 killed, hundreds rescued in Kenyan university attack that targeted Christians

NAIROBI, Kenya - Somalia's al-Shabab militants shot and killed more than 147 people, wounded dozens of others and held hundreds hostage April 2 at Garissa University College in northeastern Kenya.

Darkness of Sydney siege cannot overcome Christ's light, archbishop says

SYDNEY - Hell has touched Sydney, but the darkness let loose on a terrorized city cannot overcome the light of Christ, the city's archbishop said at a special Dec. 16 Mass after a lone gunman took 17 people hostage in a cafe, killing two before being shot by police.
