Trust in God while seeking your vocation

As students, we are faced with uncertainty every day. At a young age, we face pressure to decide our life’s mission. Before we leave high school, we are expected to make decisions that will map out several years of our life and decide our careers.

Every student has moments when they feel their lives are crumbling around them and there is no way out. Those moments usually involve a library, a term paper and more than a few cups of coffee. When those moments arise, we need to remember one thing: we are not alone. Put your trust in God and you will never be led astray.

Without trust in the Lord, the world can be a very dark and confusing place. Your faith will light your path and ease your worries. All you have to do is bring them to the altar and let God take care of the rest.

As young Catholics, it’s important to take time and realize what really matters in life. We should strive to live as Jesus did and to proclaim the Gospel by the way we treat others.

Students also feel the stress of discerning our vocation. The truth is, few of us realize our vocation until we fulfill it. We are not all called to be priests, nuns or missionaries. Sometimes a vocation is as simple as helping a member of your community, being a friend to someone without one or giving advice to someone who needs guidance.

If you put your trust in God, wonderful things will happen. You will remove the limits you put on your life and realize your potential. A friend once told me God was the author of her life. Too often we worry about things we have no control over. Learn to put your future in God’s hands and you will be led in the right direction.

Sometimes God comes into our lives in unexpected ways. It could be through one person who crosses your path and changes your perspective on life. The friends I’ve met in university have opened my eyes to a new world. I now see it with confidence and not fear. It’s a place of endless opportunities; you just have to be willing to look for them.

I was never a risk taker in high school. I enjoyed being comfortable and staying close to my familiar surroundings. One year after graduation, I found myself on a plane destined for the other side of the world.

I studied abroad for four months in Sapporo, Japan, and it was the most spontaneous thing I have ever done. Whether it was on a crowded subway or the top of a mountain, I could feel God by my side. I knew He led me there and I trusted Him.

One month after I returned, I was planning a social justice mission to Mexico. My attitude towards life changed completely, I felt liberated and I haven’t looked back.
