“It took me two days or three and I worked day and night,” said Villegas, a Grade 6 student at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Elementary School in Toronto.
“I was searching the Internet (for ideas) and nothing came up. Then my grandma called me and sent me some photos and then I just started pasting parts of different pictures in my head and I drew it.”
Villegas’ drawing won top prize for children over 11 years old. Jomalaine Mae Cinense, 10, won in the 8-10 year-old category, while Jessica Andrade, 6, took top spot among the under-seven -year-olds.
Their drawings are featured below, along with a slideshow of some others that caught our eye. We hope to feature more of the competition entries on the site in the coming weeks.
The three winners each receive a $100 gift certificate from St. Joseph’s, which specializes in children’s books and educational resources.
