Editorial: More than a church

Shooting in cathedral leaves five dead, four injured in Brazil

Edmonton cathedral given a $1.4-million facelift

Already a provincial historic site, St. Josaphat’s Cathedral received the same honour from the City of Edmonton two years ago, along with a $500,000 grant. Financing also came from the Edmonton Eparchy, the provincial government, corporate donors, and community fundraising, among other sources. The final cost is expected to be approximately $1.4 million.
EDMONTON – Ukrainian Catholics are celebrating the completion of a $1.4-million restoration of St. Josaphat’s Cathedral, a spiritual and historic landmark in downtown Edmonton for nearly 80 years.

Longueuil diocese takes on cathedral’s $300,000 debt

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que., has been taken over by the Doicese of Longueuil, which has also assumed the cathedral’s debt from renovations it could no longer afford.

The future of an historic cathedral in Quebec has been secured by a transaction that saw the local bishop trade away a former convent and his diocese assume the cathedral’s $300,000 debt.

Cathedral closed over safety concerns

St. Michael’s Cathedral in downtown Toronto has been closed due to safety concerns. Construction renovations at the cathedral are cited for the closure.

TORONTO - First construction stripped St. Michael’s Cathedral of its spiritual atmosphere, now it is blocking parishioners from entering the pews and sacred space.

Historic Quebec churches no longer untouchable
