Ontario conscience rights case goes to court

The Christian Medical and Dental Society of Canada is in Ontario Superior Court of Justice June 13-15 challenging the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario over its “effective referral” policy.

TORONTO – In historic Osgoode Hall, 17 lawyers along with eight banker boxes of documents were arrayed three benches deep in front of Justice Herman J. Wilton-Siegel, Justice Richard A. Lococo and Justice Wendy W. Matheson before lawyer Albertos Polizogopoulos made his opening arguments on behalf of the Christian Medical and Dental Society of Canada and in favour of the Charter right of doctors to practice medicine according to their conscience.

Editorial: Smart choice to override court ruling on school funding

Funding of non-Catholics in Catholic schools violates Charter, Saskatchewan judge rules

A Saskatchewan court ruling on St. Theodore Catholic School in Theodore, Saskatchewan April 21 says the funding of non-Catholics in Catholic schools violates a section of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

REGINA – A judgment in a 12-year-old court case has sent shock waves through Saskatchewan’s Catholic education community and left Regina Archbishop Donald Bolen “disheartened.”

Constitutional challenge seeks truth of abortion numbers

We Need A Law campaign director Mike Schouten and media relations assistant Niki Pennings on the front lawn of Queen’s Park, where the campaign had arranged a display of 100,000 pink and blue flags to represent 100,000 abortions performed in Canada each year. The We Need A Law parent organization, ARPA Canada, is going to court to challenge an Ontario law that limits access to abortion information.

TORONTO - With 100,000 pink and blue flags littered across the front lawn of Queen’s Park representing Canada’s annual abortion toll, a blogger and a Protestant civil rights organization announced a constitutional challenge to Ontario freedom of information laws that keep all abortion statistics secret.
