Mexican bishops present five objectives for action on clergy abuse

Catholics express worry, disbelief, anger at new sex abuse revelations in U.S.

WASHINGTON – After the first allegations of abuse against Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick were publicized in mid-June, employees at the U.S. bishops' conference headquarters in Washington were bracing for calls from Catholics confused, outraged or anything in between regarding the emerging scandal.

Vatican team returns to Chile to 'ask forgiveness' for clergy sex abuse, cover-ups

VATICAN – Arriving on his second visit to Chile, Archbishop Charles Scicluna of Malta said his mission to the country is a sign of Pope Francis' closeness to the local church following devastating reports of sexual abuse and cover-ups by members of the clergy.

Innu women testify that Oblate missionary inappropriately touched them

Father Joveneau was a prominent religious leader among the Innu people and was held in high regard in the community. The revelations of alleged abuse came during five days of hearings that ended Dec. 1 by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls regarding events in the Cote-Nord region in eastern Quebec.
MONTREAL – Oblate Father Alexis Joveneau was said to have inappropriately touched women and girls in the Innu community in Quebec where he ministered from 1953 until his death in 1992.
