Chaldeans shocked by patriarch’s removal of status

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid’s recent decision to revoke the official status of Patriarch Cardinal Louis Sako as the head of the Chaldean (Eastern-rite Catholic) Church of Iraq has left the country’s dwindling Christian community and the entire worldwide diaspora deeply hurt, said Bishop Robert Saeed Jarjis.

Chaldean Archbishop Yousif Mirkis of Kirkuk, Iraq says Christians who are considering leaving Iraq should stay and play a role in rebuilding the country.

PARIS – Iraqi Christians who are considering leaving the country should stay put and play a role in rebuilding their war-shattered homeland, a senior prelate said in Paris.
