Dozens of Christians feared to be among 230 kidnapped in Syria

In early August, Islamic State militants attacked Qaryatain, a town where Christians sought refuge after leaving Aleppo, and Hawwarin, a nearby Assyrian village, where 2,000 Assyrian Christians were forced to flee.

AMMAN, Jordan - Dozens of Christians are feared to be among the 230 people abducted by Islamic State after the extremist group's militants captured a central Syrian town in early August.

Toronto's Ethiopians rally against Islamic State brutality

Ethiopian immigrants from the Christian, Orthodox, Protestant and Muslim faiths all gathered April 28 in Toronto’s Dundas Square to appeal to Canadians and the international community to do more to protect Ethiopian migrants in Yemen and South Africa.

TORONTO - Close to 1,000 Ethiopian immigrants — a mix of Orthodox, Protestant and Muslim — gathered in the late afternoon and evening of April 28 in Dundas Square to mourn together the death of two Ethiopian migrant workers murdered April 19 in Libya by Islamic State militants.

Pope's welcome in Turkey as chilly as the weather

Pope Francis arrives for a Divine Liturgy with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople in the patriarchal Church of St. George in Istanbul Nov. 30. The liturgy marked the feast of St. Andrew, patron of the ecumenical patriarchate.
VATICAN CITY - Ankara and Istanbul were gray and cold during Pope Francis' Nov. 28-30 visit to Turkey. And the general reception, outside of the Pope's official meetings, was hardly warmer.

Pope Francis delivers condolences to slain U.S. journalist's family

U.S. journalist James Foley speaks at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Ill., after being released from imprisonment in Libya in 2011. Foley, a freelance war correspondent from New Hampshire and a Marquette University alu m, was killed at the hands of the Islamic State militant group.
