Criminal Code changes raise religious freedom concerns

Conservative religious freedom and human rights critic MP David Anderson says the Liberal government’s Bill C-51 would remove the only provisions in Canada’s Criminal Code that directly protects the rights of individuals to freely practice their religion.

OTTAWA – A new bill before the House of Commons has triggered religious freedom concerns because it removes Criminal Code sanctions against disrupting or obstructing worship services.

Canada to fund overseas abortion

Campaign Life Coalition program manager and UN representative Matthew Wojciechowski said he was not surprised the Liberals are restoring overseas abortion funding.

OTTAWA – The federal government is set to begin funding abortion in the developing world, reversing the policy of the Harper government to not provide funding for such procedures overseas.

ONTREAL – Seated in a quiet room, the Melkite Catholic archbishop of Aleppo, Syria, spoke slowly, in an almost muffled voice. His eyes sometimes ran astray, lingering on the buildings across the street in downtown Montreal. He detailed how Fouad Banna's family was torn apart when their house was destroyed by an attack a few months ago.
