Halifax’s Saint Mary’s University offering language course for those welcoming Syrian refugees

At Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Muhammad Elhabibi has developed and is directing an Arabic language-for-beginners program for the broader community.

Retired lawyer Bob Doherty has no illusions about becoming fluent in Arabic but he’s taking a language course at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax in order to ease the transition for the Syrian refugee family his parish will soon welcome.

Saint Mary’s enlists peers in mental health counselling

Saint Mary’s University in Halifax understands that mental illness is a big issue among its student body and offers extensive help for students dealing with depression so they can succeed at school and in life.

Going crazy isn’t what it used to be on campus. Mental illness is no longer a problem of weak or immature students to be sniggered at or ignored.
