For the first time since 2019, the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth will stage a summer Steubenville conference for high school students. 

Barring a sudden, misfortunate shift in the COVID-19 pandemic trajectory, the Archdiocese of Toronto’s Office of Catholic Youth (OCY) is poised to resuscitate Steubenville Toronto, Canada’s largest conference for Catholic teens, this summer.

Canadian Catholic youth and young adults saddened by Steubenville Toronto and Steubenville Atlantic being cancelled due to COVID-19 will have a faith conference to be excited about this month after all, should everything go according to plan.  

The first week of July was shaping up to be a big one in the life of Arnold Cordova — then along came the COVID-19 outbreak.

It all started with a selfie.

While at the Steubenville Toronto youth conference last July, a few of the youth from St. Francis Xavier parish asked the host, Chris Stefanick, to take a selfie with them.

For a decade, Steubenville Atlantic has been a symbol of hope for youth ministry on the east coast. Hundreds of youth flock to the Halifax conference every year to encounter Christ together as one Church.

TORONTO - Limitless is the word to describe the future of the Catholic Church after downtown Toronto was witness to more than 1,600 youth in prayer and celebration at the second annual Steubenville Toronto conference.

The last day of Steubenville Toronto focused on translating all the things Steubenville participants had learned throughout the event into their daily lives. It was a theme that permeated all of the day’s proceedings.

Days before the Steubenville Toronto weekend, I wracked my brain thinking about what the theme of the conference could mean. Limitless is such a big word, but after experiencing the conference, I think that was the point.

Steubenville Toronto is Canada's largest Catholic youth conference. More than 1,500 youths will be at Roy Thomson Hall from Aug. 7-9, celebrating our God who is limitless.

Steubenville Toronto greeted me with crowds of people — a sea of colourful t-shirts, distinguishing each group that bustled among the different vendors. As I entered Roy Thompson Hall Friday afternoon, I felt the electrified hum of young people, reuniting with old friends from conferences past, making new ones, and expecting to encounter the Lord in a new way.
