Catholic mask: Italian bishops try to reveal truth behind mafia's faith

Former Italian Minister Claudio Scajola leaves the DIA (Italy's agency that investigates Mafia crimes) escorted by special police in Rome in May. Scajola was taken into custody that day on suspicion of helping former legislator and businessman Amedeo Mat acena flee Italian justice after a conviction for Mafia links. In southern Italy, the Mafia, the 'Ndrangheta and other organized criminal gangs still cloak themselves in symbols of Catholicism, and the region's bishops have had enough.

VATICAN CITY - The godfather who stands up for a child's baptism one day and spends the rest of the week running a brutal crime ring unfortunately is not the stuff of movies.
