St. Mary’s College in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., is keeping the melodies and harmonies alive, despite pandemic restrictions, with percussion music makers called Boomwhackers. 

In a year when everything was virtually, uhhhh, virtual, Michael Paglia and his music students at All Saints Catholic Secondary School in Whity, Ont., were honoured for their contribution to this virtual reality. 

VANCOUVER -- After spending last year in a church basement, the young musicians in St. Mary’s Elementary School’s band class can now breathe easily in their very own fine arts annex.

A Mississauga Catholic school has received a shipment of brand-new musical instruments, courtesy of Toronto Raptors’ head coach Nick Nurse and Canadian rock band the Arkells.

Even a parishioner listening closely during Mass would not know the meticulous care that Jeffrey Moellman brings to every note he plays on the organ at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. 

PORT PERRY, ONT. – Maestro Uwe Lieflander always begins a Sparrows choir practice with a warmup for the brain. A crowd of 80 children from ages three to 14 years old are busy chitchatting. But the room falls silent once Lieflander begins to play the first few bars of Mozart’s “Requiem.”
