The 75th anniversary of this Catholic spiritual hub of stillness and prayer is being feted with a special celebration.

The Jesuits Of Canada are planning to close the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Centre in Pickering, Ont., after nearly 80 years of service to the community. 

Prayer is not a privilege set aside for ladies and gentlemen of leisure, not a secret code revealed begrudgingly to an enlightened elite. Prayer is part of being human. The Jesuits, products of the 16th-century humanist revolution, are working to make sure it stays that way at their new retreat centre in Montreal.

I rarely shut up. I also have a loud voice, though most of the time I am not aware how loud I am.

It’s not just our bodies that need a workout, our souls need training too.

That’s what St. Paschal Baylon Church’s young adult ministry will be doing this year for its annual retreat April 25-26.

TORONTO - In 1985, the Vincentian Congregation opened its first retreat centre in Potta, India. The Divine Retreat Centre was so successful the Vincentians expanded the retreat ministry across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, the United States and now, finally, into Canada.
