On New Year’s Day, Pope Francis delivered his annual World Day of Peace message that passionately called for an end to modern-day slavery. The title, “No longer slaves, but brothers and sisters,” is taken from St. Paul’s letter to Philemon. Pope Francis noted that “slavery is rooted in a notion of the human person which allows him or her to be treated as an object” and highlighted the many forms of modern-day slavery, including “persons forced into prostitution, many of whom are minors.”

VATICAN CITY - Bringing the light of hope to ending human trafficking means confronting the brutal "darkness" of evil that is driving those who exploit others, said a number of women religious helping victims.

TORONTO - Covenant House is stepping up to give young women and girls caught in the grip of the sex trade a way out.

OTTAWA - Canada’s prostitution Bill C-36 passed the Senate Nov. 6 and will go into effect Dec. 6, criminalizing the purchase of sex for the first time in Canadian history.
