Mary Magdalene honoured with feast day, speaks to dignity of women

The Church will celebrate the feast day of Mary Magdalene on July 22. She was the first person to see the risen Christ and believed He was risen when the Apostles did not.

Now that the memorial to St. Mary Magdalene is a feast day, all that remains is for Catholics to decide how they will feast.

In dark days, put prayer into action

“We need more prayer.” That may seem like a sweet but naive idea in dark days, but it is a form of action that connects us to a truth that can’t be trumped.

In the midst of all the bad news over the past month, especially the legalization of euthanasia, it is easy to forget there is a world of the spirit and prayer that rises above the grime and connects us to our true home where truth shines bright.

VATICAN CITY – Recognizing St. Mary Magdalene's role as the first to witness Christ's resurrection and as a "true and authentic evangelizer," Pope Francis raised the July 22 memorial of St. Mary Magdalene to a feast on the Church's liturgical calendar, the Vatican announced.
