The what ifs of all those years ago

  • April 4, 2013

When I was 12 years old, a Grade 8 classmate at Holy Cross Catholic School in East York was working at Maple Leaf Gardens selling ice cream and popcorn.

It sounded like the coolest job. They actually paid him to watch Toronto Maple Leaf hockey games and what could be better than that?

So, one day I asked my buddy Tony if he could ask his boss if I could get a job at Maple Leaf Gardens, too. Sure enough, Tony got me a job. My parents gave permission only if Tony and I travelled together by bus and subway and returned home together after work.
