TORONTO – A Basilian priest who is no stranger to the city of Toronto will be joining the archdiocese as its new auxiliary bishop.

An amazing hockey player he may have been, but Gordie Howe’s greatest legacy will be that he was an even better human being, one who touched the lives of all of us and our families.

ST. LOUIS – He was far from a one-man band but associate editor Michael Swan led the parade as The Catholic Register marched off with an all-time best 21 awards at the annual Catholic Press Awards gala.

OTTAWA – The Liberal government's assisted suicide legislation, which Canada's bishops describe as "fundamentally unjust" and an "affront to human dignity," easily passed third and final reading in the House of Commons May 31 and was sent to the Senate for final approval.

Catholic Register reporters, editors and designers were recognized for another year of outstanding achievement by taking home 14 awards, including eight first-place honours, at the annual Canadian Church Press gala dinner April 29 in Toronto.
