Over the Rainbow

  • June 27, 2024

What is a Catholic teacher to do in the current climate? I know I am not alone when, especially in the month of June, I feel bombarded by Rainbow banners, stickers and lanyards; I resent the pressure from our “Catholic” union to display Pride rainbows, and even march in the Pride parade.

I love my Catholic faith. I love the sacraments and the Holy Word of God. I love being able to share the beauty of our Church and its teaching with children. They thirst to know the love of Jesus. What a vocation!

But the activists who have politicized the rainbow symbol, who sign off with their pronouns and use their positions of power to push their gender ideology and shame those who reject it, are sucking the joy out of the profession. I am so tired of the diversity, equity and inclusion nonsense.

Children from ages six to 11 are naturally innocent. They should be protected from adults who defend drag queen story hours and would read books to them which promote dressing like the opposite sex. This is propaganda and should not be happening in our Catholic schools.

Let’s teach children what parents want us to: to read, to calculate and to serve the Lord. Let’s instill a reverence for all life. To cherish each other because God made us unique, in His image and male or female. Let’s find a way to introduce our older students to the Theology of the Body because our secular culture is creating so much confusion in their souls. Let’s let kids be kids and adults set examples of living Godly and God-fearing lives.

Let the children’s spontaneous drawing of rainbows be the only ones I see displayed and then I will enjoy the glorious month of June once again.
